Give Yourself a Gorgeous Fall Makeover With These 3 Simple Steps
Fall is just around the corner and if you’re like us, you’ve got your pumpkin candles, PSL lattes, and fall decorations all set to go. But what about your fall beauty routine? Changing leaves and cooler temperatures inspire new textures and colors for both hair and nails, from warm cinnamon tones to rich honeys and chocolates. And as humidity drops and the weather turns chilly, it’s time to give your skin some extra TLC, too.
Here are our favorite ways to transition your beauty routine from summer to fall.
- Try a new hair color.
Think warm and cozy with your color choices as we head into autumn. This season we’re seeing lots of copper, chocolate brown, and gold. Highlights a shade or two lighter than your base color will add dimension and texture to your hair and can warm up the bolder tones of summer.Do you love the multi-dimensional look of balyage? Or do you want to make a bold statement with an all-over hair color? Either way, choosing a color that complements your skin tone is the best way to guarantee that you’ll love the results.
- Change up your manicure.
The neon colors and whimsical nail designs of summer are behind us, but don’t think you are limited to burgundy and chocolate nails just because it’s fall (although we certainly love those gorgeous dark colors!). Nail art is very trendy this season, so don’t be afraid to experiment! If you’re feeling bold, try a fun tortoiseshell or animal print to make a statement. For a classic but still updated look, consider a French manicure with a twist, like a gorgeous metallic tip, a reverse French manicure, or a half-moon French manicure.
- Think through your skin care routine.
As temperatures cool, we’ll soon be cranking up forced-air heating systems that suck the moisture out of the air. Combine that with a drop in humidity as we transition from summer to fall, and you have a classic recipe for dry, itchy skin.To keep your skin healthy, swap out your lightweight moisturizer with a thicker cream to replenish natural fatty acids and keep your skin glowing. Go easy on exfoliation during the fall as well, especially if you have sensitive skin, and slather on some body lotion after your shower to prevent dryness from head to toe.
One thing you shouldn’t change during the fall: daily sunscreen. The sun might not feel as harsh, but that doesn’t mean it can’t damage your skin. Apply sunscreen year-round to protect yourself from harmful UV rays that cause skin cancer (yes, even in the dead of winter).
